La’Shawn Waters

La’Shawn J. Waters is the founder and CEO of Phoenix Healing Services. In the course of her career, she has counseled individuals, families, and couples struggling with many different issues, including depression, communication barriers, anxiety, anger management, marital issues, grief and loss, along with a variety of life stressors.

La’Shawn obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wilmington University, where she received the Clinical Excellence Award and her Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Community Services comes from the University of Delaware. She is a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH).

La’Shawn has a diverse range of experience with various demographics across the lifespan, including but not limited to children, adolescents, adults and geriatric with all levels of severity from mild life change stressors to those who struggle with chronic mental illness. She has administered therapy in homes, schools and in the community as well as in traditional outpatient settings. Most recently, La’Shawn’s experience has expanded to military service members, spouses and children as a Military and Family Life Counselor for the Air National Guard and Army National Guard.

La’Shawn’s approach is an integrative combination of person-centered, cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused therapies given gently yet directly. In a session with La’Shawn, she will listen and respond intentionally while noting recurring themes that may keep clients stuck. Clients have described La’Shawn as encouraging, reassuring, compassionate and can also bring her sense of humor into the therapeutic experience, which overall has created an environment of comfort and safety.
