Dr. Frische is a board-certified psychiatrist trained in general psychiatry, public health, and healthcare management. She completed her general psychiatric training and served as clinical assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which is home to the first perinatal psychiatric inpatient unit in the country.
Before opening her private practice, Dr. Frische worked at UNC in the Women’s Mood Center, supervising training physicians in the outpatient women’s mood clinics and attending over the inpatient perinatal psychiatric unit. While at UNC, she was also one of the first physicians in the nation to treat severe postpartum mood and anxiety disorders with a novel FDA-approved 60-hour inpatient hormone infusion, brexanolone.
Dr. Frische continues to serve as adjunct faculty within UNC and was a contributing author for the Women’s Mood Disorders textbook published in 2021. She helps women process the emotional stressors of pregnancy loss, infertility, NICU and medically-ill patients, parental guilt and anger, postpartum body acceptance and sexual health as well as parenting concerns.
She has special interests in burnout and work-life balance of working parents as well as nontraditional family systems and transgender parents. Dr. Frische specializes in the diagnosis and management of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders as well as perimenopausal mood symptoms. She provides both medication management and individual psychotherapy using cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.
